5 Successful Experimental Actors of Bollywood

One of the most important aspect in order to stay relevant in the film industry in our opinion is when individuals keep on reinventing on themselves through several characters rather than restricting themselves to specific type of role or genre film. Sometimes, obviously these risks do not work showcasing the lack of acting depth or range in individuals or on the other hand it just portrays how amazingly talented a person is.

While visiting through not so early-not so late movies, lets see those 5 successful risks taken in order to experiment themselves as an actor.

1. Shahid Kapoor in Kaminey

Directed by Vishal Bardwaj, 2009 film Kaminey is one of the most underrated film in Bollywood. Besides the intense and gripping premise, the stellar performances by cast stood out the film. Especially Shahid Kapoor's double role of brothers - Guddu and Charlie. He portrays the simple start doing Guddu with as much ease as the fearless Charlie. Shahid, who by this time had not really experimented with layered characters, it was clear that this was a big test for the actor. A double role and not in his conventional chocolate  boy love story, it's safe to say that the actor hit it for a home run with his performance. Definitely one of his finest.

2. Rani Mukherjee in Black

A 2005 film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a movie adapted from a miracle worker which is a cycle of the 20th century dramatic works derived from Helen Keller autobiography, ''The Story Of My Life''. Black revolves around a blind-deaf girl and her relationship with her teacher, their daily struggles and achievements over the years and surprisingly his own downfall as he later develops Alzheimer's disease. Rani Mukherjee who by that time had mostly done Romantic Movies, it was surely her experiment in her career.  To take a plunge of such a challenging role was a risk but one that paid off. Rani as Michelle was one of the most beautiful things to witness on the big screen. A true example of an artist in her element in front of the camera.

3. Alia Bhatt in Udta Punjab

Alia Bhatt by 2016 has proven to us that she is one of the most talented individuals of our generation. She was receiving nothing but accolades. But her risky choice of saying Yes to 2016 film Udta Punjab really cemented her position in the film industry. The talented actor played the role of a girl whose aspiration is to be a hockey player but works as a laborer on an agricultural field and comes to know behind the scenes business practices of the landlord involved in drug peddling. The character goes through absolute hell throughout the film and she showcased every bit with exception.

4. Saif Ali Khan in Omkara

An adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello, Omkara is an example that proves that Vishal Bardwaj is one of the only directors who can successfully adapt Shakespeare plays to recreate the literary masterpiece. Set up in an Indian rural setting is truly praiseworthy. Saif Ali Khan would had been in nobody's list back in 2006 to play such role of Langda Tyagi. By watching his previous films, nobody had thought that but the risk of casting him became a game changer for the actor. Not only did he perfectly portray the menacing and scarily competitive individual, it showcased that the actor has arranged to offer which was never discovered before.

5. Ritesh Deshmukh in Ek Villain

A remake of the South Korean film 'I Saw The Devil', we saw the taste of playing the psychotic frustrated and bound to kill Rakesh. A verbally abused husband and economically deprived individual takes out his frustration on anyone that mistreats him or belittles him in any shape and form. A man who has been constantly starring in over the top comedy throughout his career transitioned brilliantly in this disturbing thriller. Definitely Deshmukh's best performance, Rakesh has no concept of consequences and goes out of his way to create complete chaos. Kudos to the actor for taking the plunge and the casting directors who took such a risk.

5 Bollywood Actors who starred in Music Videos before doing Movies.

Many Bollywood actors have been seen with successful debut in movies and some have made path to A-list actors while some just faded away right after their debut. However, it is interesting to know that most of the celebrities do a number of jobs before bagging their film. These jobs include advertisements and modeling gigs but some also featured in some classic music videos where some of them are completely unrecognizable.

Let's see those celebrities and actors who did music videos before doing movies.

1. Deepika Padukone

One of the biggest names in Indian Film Industry currently is Deepika Padukone. An actor that has proven time and again that she is an extremely capable actor and effortlessly beautiful. The actor before making her extremely successful debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan with Om Shanti Om was working as a relatively well known model in India. Gaining a lot of attention due to her calender shoot not many people know that the actor before transitioning into films actually featured in a Himesh Reshamiya music video in the song titled Naam Hai Tera from the movie Aap Ka Suroor.

2. Bipasha Basu

An extremely well known and beautiful model in the late 90s and early 2000s who seamlessly transitioned into the film industry featuring in several films and bagging many accolades as well. The actor who had several chances to feature in films but ultimately said Yes to the 2001 film Ajnabee had a long and quite successful career. However, before appearing in her first film, she featured in Sonu Nigam's music video in the song Tu Kab Ye Jaanegi.

3. Shahid Kapoor

Before his debut in Ishq Vishq, there are lot of trivia about this actor. He started as a background dancer with Shaimak Davar and featured in Taal also starred in advertisement. But the music video Aankhon Me Tera Chehra was the teenage Shahid Kapoor seen as an infatuated person. The actor looks completely unrecognizable and the video will definately warm your heart.

4. John Abraham

The Hunk and one of the big names in Bollywood lately irrespective of his limited acting range has proven himself to be wise in terms of putting money in the right projects. As a producer, he had invested in films like Vickey Donar and made money featuring himself in films like Parmanu and Satyamave Jayate. Unknown model in India before making his acting debut with Jism, a lesser known fact is that the model/actor featured in a music video by Pankaj Udaas titled Chupke Chupke. Very fascinating journey from model to A-list actors.

5. Vidya Balan

One of the most talented individuals working in Hindi Film Industry is undoubtedly Vidya Balan. An actor who leads by example and takes up challenging roles and exciting projects, we all know that actress featured in Television series Hum Paach. But before her 2005 Bollywood debut Parineeta, the actor actually featured in a very famous music video by Euphoria titled Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Galli. Every body that time were not aware and did not notice the girl in the video was actually Vidya Balan.

5 Must Watch Indian Thriller Movies

One of the most engaging and entertaining genre of film is Thrillers. Most people are craving to see unique thrillers which have them sit on the edge of their seat. Very less experimented genre in India has a certain audience who continuously seek such films and recommend others with positive word of mouth. There might not be huge number of regular audience but if they start watching such films, there is no going back. Let's see 5 captivating Indian thrillers nobody should miss.

Note: I will not talk about Drishyam series.

1. Psycho

No, I'm not talking about Alferd Hitchcock's Psycho. The Tamil film directed by Mysskin provides one of the most unique movie viewing experience. It leaves audience uncomfortable borderline sick and genuinely scare them. Most thrillers in these days develop interest among the audience but this one will surely give haunting nightmare whatever the age group the person is. Psycho focuses on a killer on the loose and rest should be watched. There is no giveaway in this post about any movie.  The bone chilling background is scary as hell and the film has most unique storytelling unlike other thriller movies. This one is must watch.

2. AWE

If you have not watched this film yet, I would recommend not to read anything and soon watch it. The 2018 film directed by Prashant Verma is so well designed that it cannot be talked about. One can only talk about the experience of watching the film and let audience focus on the inconsequential details and make yourself question your initial judgement and also mockingly laugh at your own smugness at is presents a layer of story telling no one had ever expected. Its screenplay is one of a kind which showcases taboo subjects as well for Indian audience.

3. Anjaam Pathiraa

The 2020 film directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas provides an interesting tale as it focuses on the members of the police force getting mercilessly killed with no traces of evidence. Murder after murder leads the forces doubting their own capabilities. This is when a consulting criminologist and a security hacker joins hands with the police force in order to come to the bottom of the gruesome murders. The film develops intrigue spectacularly through the anxiety generating an addictive background score and its screenplay. This one is obviously worth your time.

4. Ulidavaru Kandanthe
This film again is a screenplay masterclass. The movie focuses on a piece that is being written by journalist which has several accounts of a murder that took place during Krishna Janmasthami. This film is presented in chapter format, each chapter dedicated for particular character. A complex storyline with its dark humor, successful thriller tropes and clear inspirations from iconic film storylines intertwines and comes together so beautifully.  You can find this film in Youtube in Hindi language as Balwaan Badshah.

5. Mathu Vadalra
The 2019 Telugu Thriller directed by Ritesh Rana is an enjoyble movie. The movie focuses on a delivery boy annoyed and depressed with his quality of life in the process of greed and a better future scans a customer only to find himself in a situation that is irreversible and a whole lot of trouble. The music and soundtrack of this film is extra ordinary. Spectacular cast with the ability to make audience attend the small details and giving quality visual experience, this movie is perfect. Every characters presented in every visual has purpose to the story. This is must watch for all kind of audiences.

5 Failed Bollywood movies that deserve a second chance

Sometimes right thing does not happen in right time. Specially in making films, if the content of the movie does not match with the time and situation of that particular moment, it does not work. Mostly in India where people are sticked to entertainment and neglect the content of the movie realizes after a period of time that how classic the movie was.

So today, we are not only going to focus over lesser known films but the movies which were exceptional in story telling but did not hype up with the masses and now must be explored for the sake of good cinema.

1. Do Dooni Char

The National award winning film which was doing under business in 2010 proves that Indian audience were not seeking for the thought provoking and engaging cinema. We can see now story based on small town is doing very good business, it is urgent to revisit the film. The iconic duo Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh playing lower middle class family trying to make a living focuses to buying and purchase a car. This is the most grounded and genuine stories that most people can relate to.

2. Liar's Dice

The Geetu Mohan Das directed film starring Nawazzudin Shiddhique and Geetanjali Thapa focuses on a woman accompanied daughter travels from small village to Delhi to find her husband. Upon this journey, they come across an army and the film takes shape. The film had understated yet effective performances showcases the socio political condition of the country as the journey continues. This one is a gem nobody should miss.

3. Khosla Ka Ghosla

The film follows a middle class family purchasing a plot of land in which they want their dream home and the problem they face with the Industrialist and the residential property racket accounts for the hilarious movie going experience. Cast of extremely talented actors and grounded in reality narrative was again not celebrated by masses at time of its release. Over the time, the movie has created its own fans and deserve a chance from overall audience.

4. Love Sex aur Dhoka

An experimental project directed by Dibakar Banerjee technically shot like no other film following 3 story lines with ensemble cast is fun to watch. A low budget film with CCTV footage of a departmental store, a handheld camera footage from a journalist and how all these stories coincide is also the birth of familiar talents which are now stars. The film provided a gripping screenplay and unique stories not entertaining for the Indian audience in 2010. The audience might not be familiar with the star cast that is why they panned it. It was definitely ahead of its time.

5. Guzaarish

Undoubtedly Sanjay Leela Bhansali's underrated film starring Hritik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachhan follows the story of a magician who after a horrific incident becomes paralyzed from head to toe. His beautiful relationship with his nurse and everyday mental and physical battles they had to face despite brightening everyone's day with his Radio show also shows and opens several debates about domestic violence and the purpose of life. The beautiful movie with stunning visuals was failed at box office and must deserve a second chance.

Bollywood actors who actually got drunk for a scene

As we know, we can find variety if actors in Hindi film industry who have their own method of acting. Some of them really dwell into the character and what the premises is about where there are others who just land up on sets and deliver dialogues.

In some moments, the most serious actors actually take up method acting to another level by making up their mind in order to give full justice to the moment of the characters being drunk, they need to be intoxicated. So here we look after the actors who took the leap of getting smashed before performing drunk scenes.

1. Varun Dhawan in 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania'

This was an entertaining film that showcased the genuine and grounded love story. It boasted great performances and amazing music as well. But the lesser known fact is that Varun Dhawan had actually finished shooting the first schedule of Badlapur and climax of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania simultaneously. This actually led to a change in his process to get into the zone of his character. It became so intensive and so essentric that in the climax scene as Humpty cries at the lost opportunity of marrying Kavya, the actor actually had few glasses of whisky for the scene.

2. Vicky Kaushal in 'Sanju'

One of the most important aspect of the superhit Sanju was Kamli played by Vicky Kaushal. A man who is always by Sanju side through thick and thin and has nothing but purest intensions. Vicky Kaushal was impeccable in the film not missing a single note with respect to his performance. In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Vicky confessed that in the scene where Kamli pleads to Sunil Dutt to save his child who is lost in the world of drugs and alcohol, he got drunk before the scene to fully commit to the moment.

3. Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R. Madhavan in '3 Idiots'

The iconic drunk scene in 3 idiots as all the 3 best friends sit on the staircase at the middle of the night is our favorite moments from the film. Little known fact is that all three actors got drunk before doing the scene to bring life to the most crucial and entertaining scene. The hilarious aspect is that however three actors were drunk trying to remember their lines, numerous takes were needed as the actors kept going out of their element or took long pauses leading to a film stock getting over.

4. Rajkumar Rao in 'City Lights'

Rajkumar Rao is one of the most talented actors of this generation. A man who is very careful choosing commercial cinema who is attracting the masses as well as the challenging roles in lesser known films that will give all the accolades. He is also known as a method actor who uses different techniques to portray his roles. And in brilliant movie City Lights, he did so. Not a regular drinker in real life, in order to bring validity to a scene, he asked the director to take 6 pegs of vodka which eventually led him get totally wasted.

5. Aamir Khan in 'Raja Hindustani'

We all know that Aamir Khan does his research before signing in any movie. He is one of those few actors who has the knack of identifying unique stories that also work commercially. The man in many moments also tries to imbibe the character and his struggle entirely. In the 1996 film Raja Hindustani, Aamir being a teetotaler he actually consumed a full vodka to show the emotional situation of the character Raja. He was intoxicated during the filming of a song which he confessed in an interview in 2000.

5 boring Bollywood movies but with beautiful music

Bollywood is known for its creation in music inside the film. Whole world acknowledge the music and songs of the movie. There are some movies which meticulously combine music to tell stories which becomes the soul of the film, however sometimes songs and music are created just for marketing of the film.

But now we are talking about those movies which stories and plot just bores us and the only saving grace of these films are its music and soundtracks. Audience watched it either they loved the starcast or they loved the music.

1. Jab Harry Met Sejal

Once again, the king of Romance Shah Rukh Khan who had mesmerized the audiences from 90s and have been extremely successful is a treat to watch romancing. But with the change in time and situation, trying to flex the same scenario with new generation audience also in such film written disastrously is total mess. Though the film was directed by great mind Imtiaz Ali, it had no taste of the director. The subtext is lost in all the travelling at the quest to find the ring, but being a neutral audience, you can only talk about some moments. However, the music and soundtrack composed by Pritam and songs written by Irshad Kamil makes audience crave that only if this film had more captivating and layered romance to tell, this could had been SRK's another classic.

2. Roy

A film that had stellar starcast and people were craving to watch the movie after seeing promos, again this was one of a hell movie. The film which was most confused in itself had some brilliant music. Undoubtedly, people were enjoying its songs and was seen to be in everybody's playlist. The music composed by Ankit Tiwari and Amaal Malik definitely headed out of the park with songs like Sooraj Duba Hai, Tu Hain Ki Nahin and many more.

3. Kalank

When people were enamored with its beauty, it is out of the debate that the film faltered miserably with the storyline. Obviously, a love story set during the time when British were ruling, but the film showcased the complete absence of the imperialist influence. Producer Karan Johar himself admitted that he was so into making his father's dream project on the biggest scale India has ever seen, the storyline somewhere lacked. But nobody can deny that the music composed by Pritam, the film had the variety of songs capturing different moods. The music is recommended mostly.

4. Half Girlfriend

Movies made on Chetan Bhagat novels, this one is exception. This film is a classic example of the adaptation that just becomes a mess. The film fails in every aspect from acting to taking essence of the place where the film was set, the only good thing was the music which became sole purpose to see something beautiful. Composed by Mithoon and songs written by Manoj Muntashir and other musicians, it was a collaborative product to  unintentionally save the movie. Nobody can ignore its songs.

5. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

The film showcases only the privileged and rich Indian Bubble in foreign countries who are able to book private jets. From constantly bearing the woman to accept her and flipping her off in her own wedding day and hurting himself as he is a heart broken to finally making a move again only to get rejected. There are stories of unrequited love that can be endearing but this one this one was just problematic and awkward. Irrespective of the story of the film, its music is simply beautiful. Composed by Pritam and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, every songs with mostly Arijit Singh's voice are so so beautiful. Do not miss those.

Review of Mission Majnu

The Siddharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna starrer movie ' Mission Majnu' on Netflix is about a RAW agent being undercover and...
